Some times, some customers asked me: is the tolerance in my drawing reasonable? How to define a reasonable tolerance for cable assembly and wire harness. Let me make a brief answer to help you how todefine the cable tolerance today.
1, the tolerance should be considered per the whole product design, assembling, also we should consider the other mating components tolerance. Our cable tolerance should consider to make sure the cable can be connected without any concern when other components' dimension at worst condition.
2, for some tinned wire conductor OD, we need to consider the PCB hole dimension, make sure it can get through the PCB hole when the hole diamater at the lower limit.
3, if no special consideration, we prefer the cable go to upper limit. IPC-A-620 have a tolerance table, which is used for engineers to define the overall length tolerance. Please refer to below table capture.
