Core differences between RJ45 and RJ11 cables
1, Application scenarios
RJ45
Specially designed for Ethernet, mainly used to connect network devices such as computers, routers, switches, etc., supporting high-speed data transmission and TCP/IP protocol.
RJ11
The traditional telephone line standard is used to connect devices such as telephones and modems to transmit voice signals or low-speed data, and its application scenarios are gradually decreasing.
2, Physical Structure
Features RJ45 RJ11
Interface specification 8P8C (8 grooves and 8 contacts) 6P4C or 6P2C (6 grooves+4/2 contacts)
Larger size and smaller volume, can be plugged into RJ45 interface, but the opposite is not feasible
3, Line sequence and standards
RJ45
Supports two wiring standards, T568A and T568B. The straight through network cable (with the same standard at both ends) is used for device interconnection, while the crossover network cable (with different standards at both ends) is used for interconnection of devices of the same type.
RJ11
The line sequence is fixed and usually only 2 out of 4 cores are used for connection (such as telephone line connection).
4, Performance differences
Data transmission capability
RJ45 supports Gigabit/10 Gigabit Ethernet, while RJ11 is only used for low-speed transmission such as voice or ADSL.
Compatibility
RJ45 interface is physically compatible with RJ11 plug (but not recommended), RJ11 interface cannot accommodate RJ45 plug.
