TE's New M12 Connector Is The Key To Speeding Up Railway Networks

TE Connectivity (TE) recently released a new series of M12 railway connectors designed specifically for on-site assembly. The M12 X-Code connector in this series has a data transmission rate of up to 10Gb/s (following the IEC 802.3an Cat 6a standard), equipped with a full metal housing, which can effectively resist EMI/RFI interference and meet the dust and water resistance requirements of IP67 level. It is expected to be widely applied in data and sensor networks, train door control systems, and railway vehicle HVAC systems.

Egbert Stellinga, Global Product Manager for the M12 Railway X-Code Series Connectors at TE, said, "With the continuous increase in traffic speed and the increasing popularity of networking, the demand for speed and reliability in modern railway networks is becoming increasingly prominent. Our newly launched compact connectors meet this market demand, achieving a perfect combination of fast on-site assembly and high data transmission speed, ensuring the stability of network connections. Its unique torsion free compression stress relief design reduces service costs and brings tangible economic benefits to railway operations

The M12 X-Code series connector has three significant features: firstly, its machined gold-plated pressed contact point design can cope with high-frequency vibration environments, ensuring stable service throughout the entire service life of the connector; Secondly, all non-metallic components (except for connector sheaths) comply with the HL3 level requirements of the European Railway Vehicle Materials and Product Fire Performance Standards, ensuring safe use; Finally, the design of the crimping flange and crimping tube can flexibly match the selected cable, and the wire size range suitable for the contacts is AWG 22-28, meeting different needs.

In addition, the working temperature range of this connector is wide, ranging from -40 ℃ to 70 ℃ with a grip cover, or from -40 ℃ to 85 ℃ without a grip cover, adapting to various harsh environments. After rigorous testing, the product can withstand more than 250 insertions and removals, with excellent durability. The shell is made of nickel plated copper alloy, while the insulator and contact bracket are made of flame-retardant thermoplastic to ensure safety and stability during use.
