At the upcoming CHINAPLAS 2025 International Rubber and Plastic Exhibition, LG Chem will showcase its new electric vehicle charging cable solution - the ultra-high polymerization degree PVC material HRTP4000. (Booth number: 17F61)
It is reported that HRTP4000 stands for Heat resistant and Recyclable Thermal Plastic, with "4000" representing the polymerization degree index of the polymer. The polymerization degree of commonly used PVC is around 1000. The higher the polymerization degree index, the larger the molecular weight of the polymer and the better its physical/mechanical properties, but it may lead to a decrease in processing performance. However, LG Chem's innovative PVC material not only has a polymerization degree of up to 4000, but also has excellent mechanical and processing properties.

This material has excellent ultra-high molecular weight and good plasticizer absorption capacity, and is easy to recycle and reuse. Due to its excellent heat resistance, flexibility, and flame retardant properties, it is suitable for fields such as electric vehicle charging cables, high heat-resistant wire harnesses for automobiles, environmentally friendly and wear-resistant flooring, and artificial leather materials for automobile seats.

High flexibility and toughness
The charging cable using ultra-high polymerization degree PVC HRTP4000 can increase its flexibility by about 30% compared to existing materials, making the product more flexible and lightweight. Therefore, HRTP4000 is an ideal material for flexible cables suitable for various charging interfaces.

High flame retardancy
In the direct combustion performance test of HRTP4000, the flame immediately extinguished once the ignition source was removed. At the same time, its ultimate oxygen index reaches 26, which is higher than the existing TPE and TPU materials for charging cables. Therefore, HRTP4000 has excellent flame retardant properties, which can effectively prevent the spread of fire and avoid the occurrence of fire accidents.
High temperature stability&wear resistance
This material has excellent heat resistance, with a UL temperature index of 125 ℃. In addition, adding 30% ultra-high polymerization degree PVC material increases the wear resistance by about 40% compared to existing LVT flooring, and good wear resistance can extend the service life of the flooring.
environmentally
Most daily PVC products are disposed of by landfill or incineration. Products using HRTP4000 can be recycled and reused when discarded. After multiple processes such as screening, separation, crushing, and cleaning, granular recycled PVC materials are produced through a composite process.
In January of this year, LG Chem signed a cooperation agreement with EL ELECTIC, a South Korean EV charging station cable manufacturing company, to supply ultra-high polymerization degree PVC HRTP4000 material for the manufacture of high-speed charging cables for electric vehicles. According to market research data, the global electric vehicle charging infrastructure market is expected to grow from $44.1 billion in 2022 to $418.2 billion in 2030, with an average annual growth rate of 32%.
While providing environmentally friendly and flame-retardant charging cable solutions, LG Chem looks forward to working with more global partners to actively explore innovative application scenarios of high value-added PVC materials and promote the sustainable development of the industry.
