Molex Launches' Plug And Play 'VersaBeam EBO Interconnect Solution To Support The Development Of Ultra Large Scale Data Centers

Molex Molex launched VersaBeam Extended Beam Optical Fiber (EBO) interconnection solution, which is an innovative high-density fiber connector series optimized for large-scale data center, cloud and edge computing environments. This product combination utilizes beams between 3M EBO sleeve expansion connectors, aimed at reducing sensitivity to dust and debris, and potentially reducing the need for frequent cleaning, inspection, and maintenance.

The innovative VersaBeam EBO technology can improve reliability and reduce the need for cleaning, inspection, and maintenance. Helps improve deployment efficiency and simplify installation processes.

Trevor Smith, General Manager of Molex's Optical Connectivity Business, said:

The best design is often the simplest, and the Molex VersaBeam EBO connector is like this, where customers can achieve reliable connections with just a light press. Installing these connectors does not require special skills, allowing businesses to quickly gain the performance and cost advantages of flexible and scalable fiber optic connections.

Next generation connectors for future data centers

To meet the growing capacity demands of AI development, data center providers must continuously upgrade their bandwidth while minimizing infrastructure changes. Molex's VersaBeam EBO technology is highly compatible with rack and server connections, integrating more fiber optics into ultra small form factors (VSFFs) to improve rack unit utilization and reduce space occupancy.

Extended beam fiber optic connectors are the future of high-speed and flexible data center infrastructure. We are delighted to join forces with Molex to revolutionize the multi fiber connectivity of data centers. Compared with traditional connectors, this technology has a disruptive breakthrough, significantly reducing pollution risks while improving deployment speed and performance.

Molex's VersaBeam EBO connector provides high fiber density without being limited by spring forces, enabling optimal alignment and plug and play assembly. Single mode and multi-mode options, including 12 core, 16 core connectors and high-density connectors that can accommodate up to 144 fibers, help achieve more flexible system design, simpler cable routing, and faster data center startup in space limited environments.

Faster and easier deployment can reduce TCO

The VersaBeam EBO connector is easy to deploy and maintain, and relevant personnel do not need to master professional knowledge or expend a lot of energy, alleviating current concerns about the shortage of highly skilled data center technicians. Shortening the termination time, reducing the number of components, saving operating costs, reducing supply chain complexity, shortening system activation time, and thus reducing TCO.

Dave Boertjes, Senior Director of Optical Network Research and Development at Ciena, stated:
Molex's VersaBeam EBO is highly valuable as it solves the connectivity challenges of our data center infrastructure and simplifies the cleaning and inspection of each connection with low power density. By using VersaBeam EBO, our inspection and cleaning time has been reduced by 6 times, which is crucial for accelerating device deployment speed and keeping up with the current situation.

In the on-site testing of EBO connectors conducted by 3M and ultra large data center customers, similar time savings were achieved compared to the deployment of traditional MPO connectors. The 3M testing cleaning and inspection process saved a total of 85% of time, reducing deployment time by over 6 hours.
