It is reported that connector giant Amphenol is about to complete the acquisition of CommScope Holding's broadband connection box cable business unit (CCS). The total valuation of the transaction is about US $10.5 billion (including debt), which is the largest acquisition in Amphenol's history. This news also marks another major layout of Amphenol in the field of data center and high-speed Internet infrastructure.
The target business of Amphenol's acquisition includes detailed products such as cable TV and residential broadband networking equipment, data center fiber and copper cable connection solutions, mainstream fiber optic access and structured cable products such as DOCSIS/PON. If the transaction goes smoothly, it is expected to complete the acquisition in the second half of this year.
Amphenol can meet the end-to-end interconnection needs of data centers by acquiring CommScope's broadband connection box cable business unit. At present, Amphenol's existing fiber optic interconnection and high-frequency RF solutions will strengthen the internal and cross site transmission capabilities of data centers by incorporating fiber optic cable manufacturing capabilities into the system after the acquisition.
On the other hand, with the soaring AI computing power and data throughput, the industry's demand for fiber optic cables has increased dramatically. Amphenol has captured this niche market share by acquiring CommScope's fiber and broadband equipment division.
In the past five years, Ampheno has actually laid out in multiple fields such as sensing, testing, fiber optic interconnection, and wireless infrastructure. This acquisition has completed the key link of broadband access, achieving full coverage of "wired+wireless" links.
In 2021, Amphenol completed a significant acquisition of MTS Systems for approximately $1.7 billion, significantly enhancing its strength in the industrial and automotive sensor fields. MTS is mainly composed of two business departments: sensors and testing and simulation. MTS' sensor department can provide highly complementary products of high-tech and harsh environmental sensors for Amphenol, and sell them to various end markets and application fields, which can help Amphenol become one of the enterprises with the widest range of sensors and related products in the industry. MTS' testing and simulation department is a leader in the industry, and Amphenol believes that its business is highly attractive and has good short-term and long-term development potential.
Amphenol also acquired Halo Technology, a leader in the fiber optic interconnect field, in 2021, laying out its presence in data centers and high-speed communication.
In 2024, Amphenol acquired Carlisle's aerospace and defense grade interconnect products business for $2 billion, significantly increasing its market share in the high reliability connector market. In the same year, Ampheno also acquired CommScope's outdoor wireless network (OWN) and distributed antenna system (DAS) businesses for approximately $2.1 billion, accelerating its expansion in the 5G infrastructure field.
Amphenol further consolidates its global communication presence by acquiring CommScope's broadband and cable businesses
